Bill Giordano, the GM of Marketing, Coolpix mentions that the latest in the Coolpix series, the s series use a combination of technological features that makes the picture taking process a pleasurable experience, and some features that allow the user to express their own individuality through their images. Style is definitely kept in mind with the S series, and the S 220 is no exception. The slim design ensures not just a stylish look, but also a camera that easily fits into your pocket, ready for any given situation. The S 220 is well under an inch thick (0.7 inches), and if you are carrying one in your shirt pocket, it’s hard to even notice the bulge. The 2.5 inch LCD is large for a camera this size, and for compact cameras in general.

All Nikon cameras use the renowned Nikkor lenses, and the S series is no exception. The Nikkor lenses have come to be known for their razor sharp images, thanks to some very accurate and fast auto focus capabilities.  These lenses work together with te Nikon ERXPEED image processing technology, to give you those razor sharp images.  Like other models in the S series, the S 220 offers the smart portrait mode. This mode helps you shoot portraits of pleasing, smiling faces and ensures the elimination of possible red-eye caused by the flash, and also eliminates the possibility of catching your subjects at an odd moment as they blink! The S220 uses a 4-way VR (vibration reduction) image stabilization technology, which goes a long way to ensure shake-free images even in the absence of a tripod in low lighting conditions. The scene auto selection mode is the best bet if you are a complete beginner or shooting when you just don’t have the time to think for that matter. This mode analyzes the scene and auto-selects the mode that would be best suited to get a good image, be it a portrait, landscape, or moving subject.

All S-Series cameras incorporate Nikon's world-class NIKKOR lenses, which deliver extremely accurate and high-speed focusing, and Nikon's EXPEED digital image processing concept, which ensures high-quality pictures with stunning colour and sharpness.
