Review Olympus E3

E-mail Print PDF

e3frontThe Olympus E3 came as a long awaited break for Olympus users waiting to upgrade from the E1, as far as professional SLRs go. Olympus has been known to bring forth quality lenses, matching quality with any other company. Now, we have a camera body that you can put behind those lenses to get Olympus users ‘up there’, if they aren’t there yet! Welcome E3!

As compared to its predecessor the E1, the E3 boasts of a 10 mega pixel sensor that reaks of quality imaging. The camera uses the Olympus Trupic III processor, to give you the processing speed that you expect out of a professional model.  Image stabilization is a new concept in comparison to the older E series DSLRs from Olympus, and it is satisfying to Olympus users to see a sensor shift IS facility with the E3. Live View is a new trend with DSLRs , and the Olympus E3 is not left behind in this aspect.

Olympus has been associated with some of the finest auto focus systems that we have seen so far, and the 11 point AF that the E3 uses is supposedly the fastest that the world has seen so far, with certain auto focus lenses made by Olympus.  If you are a photographer that shoots a lot of candid images, this may well grab your attention, as is truly worth.

The Olympus E3 gives you a flash synchronization speed of an impressive 1/250 of a second, which makes its shutter stand in good ground with any other camera model that it may have to compete with.  Add to that a general top shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second, and you have a shutter that can handle just about any situation that your mind can think of.

Olympus has received a lot of flak for the time that they took to bring out the E3, after the E1. The time of four years led to many expectations while other well known camera makers brought out model after model in these four years. This could have been one of the factors that many review sites have given the E3 a hard time, whilst being on par with other camera models and camera makers. Our question is, do review sites really have the right to trash a fine camera such as this just because camera maker x and y have brought out a dezen models in the meantime? Absolutely not.

We are a web site that totally believes in the fact that the photographer is the most important catalyst in the picture making process, more important than the camera that he or she holds. That said and done, the E3 is more than capable of making fine photographs, being owned by the right hands.

If you are an Olympus owner, looking forward to owning your E3, and using your Olympus lenses, don’t think twice – go for this camera.  The E3 is the best thing that happened to professional Olympus users since the E1.
